Scenarios for the development of hydrogen infrastructure in London

One of the principal barriers to the widespread use of hydrogen as a road transport fuel isthe need for a refuelling infrastructure to be established. The lack of an adequate refuellinginfrastructure would severely inhibit the uptake of hydrogen vehicles; however, withoutsignificant penetration of these vehicles, the demand for hydrogen would be insufficient tomake a widespread refuelling infrastructure economic.Imperial College London is examining transition strategies for hydrogen infrastructure incities under a project funded by the UK EPSRC. Technical and economic models are beingcombined with specific socio-economic analysis to provide insight into some of the mostpromising options for infrastructure development.This paper presents a description of the models and approach that is being used to analysescenarios for hydrogen infrastructure development in London.
