A photo-evaporative mass transfer technique has been used to determine the convective mass transfer behaviour of rotating cylinders which were immersed in stagnant air. The data was to be used to test and to validate the mass transfer measurement technique being used and also CFD predictions of the cooling rate of hot rotating cylinders in still air. Cirumferantialy averaged values of Sherwood number were experimentally determined for a range of conditions and correlated as function of the rotational Reynolds number which varied in the range 2.0 * 10~3 to 80.0 * 10~(-1). Predictions of the pressure distribution and the mean Sherwood number for cylinders drying in still air have been made using a CFD package, namely EasyFlow. The mean Sherwood number predictions have been compared with those obtained experimentally.
