A transient thin-film heat-flux gauge is designed and fabricated on silex substrate. It consists of a thermal resistance layer and a differential thermopile composed of twenty-eight pairs of Cu-Ni thermocouples, which measures the difference of temperature between the two sides of the thermal resistance layer. Calibration and testing of the gauge is carried out. During the steady-state test, the time constant of the heating period was 90s. The frequency response of the heat-flux gauge is measured in the frequency domain using a reflector-combined Halogen lamp and a chopper. It is found that the thin-film heat-flux gauge has a dynamic frequency response of 330Hz.
