Rotary desiccant dehumidification systems are advantageous in being energy efficient, cost effective, and environmentally safe. In this study, three rotary desiccant wheels, which are fabricated with corrugated honey-comb paper and coated with different desiccant materials, namely, lithium chloride, actived silica gel, and compound of lithium chloride and active silica gel, are tested and evaluated. It is found that the composite desiccant wheel coated with silica gel- lithium chloride (abbreviated to W-CD in the following text) can adsorb more moisture than the wheel coated with silica gel alone (abbreviated to W-SG in the following text) by about 20%, and there is no liquefying under hot and humid ambient conditions, compared with the wheel coated with lithium chloride only (abbreviated to W-LiCl in the following text), though the later one has a high moisture uptake.
