Measuring extensional properties is difficult. However, extensional properties are important in many material processing techniques, such as extrusion and film blowing. In this work, we examine a new technique that relates bulk modulus to density and the sound velocity of the material. We will present results on Newtonian and viscoelastic liquids. These data are compared to results obtained on a shear rheometer and on data obtained by other workers using extensional rheometers.
