Landslide hazard in afforested territories of Slovakia

The paper deals with bivariate statistical landslide hazard assessment for afforested areas of the Slovak Republic. The input data provided the Atlas of the slope stability maps of the Slovak Republic on a scale 1: 50 000, the European CORINE land cover database derived by using the satellite images at the scale 1:100 000 and the digital map of lithological formations of Slovakia on a scale of 1: 50 000. 21 290 slope deformations covering the area of 2 575,912 km~2 registered in the Landslide atlas pose either damage or threat for 5,25 % of the area of the Slovak Republic. The total area of Slovakia equals to 49032,13 km~2 and the forest covers 41% of its territory. The geological input created nine principle lithological formations distinguished based upon regional engineering geological classification of Slovakia. The object of this study is assessment of the effect of landslide hazard upon the forest stands.
