NOAA's High Resolution Doppler Lidar continues to be a valuable instrument for study and understanding of atmospheric boundary layer dynamics and structure. The basic Doppler lidar products (mean winds, mixing strength, and layering) provided real-time context information for in-situ chemistry measurements during the ship-based portion of the 2006 Texas Air Quality Study and continue to do so during post-experiment analysis of the various data sets. Additional postprocessing of the velocity and return signal strength data products is underway to determine aerosol layer heights, backscatter values, mixing layer heights and strengths, and to improve models of boundary layer dynamics. Planned comparisons with NOAA's ozone and aerosol lidars (one on the ship and one in a Twin-Otter) as well as with NASA's high spectral resolution lidar, CALIPSO, and in-situ aerosol optical property measurements will provide valuable information about aerosol backscatter as well as information about scaling 2μm lidar performance to a space-based platform.
