The reaction mechanism of electrochemical reduction of TiO_2 in molten CaCl_2 was studied systematically by means of cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and A.C impedance techniques in temperature range of 1073 K to 1133 K. The reduction reaction of TiO_2 was found to be the two-step process: TiO_2 is reduced to the intermediate product TiO, and then to pure Ti.
