Statistics and the Cosmic Microwave Background

We discuss the statistics of fluctuations in the Cosmic Microwave Background, and the statistical analysis of CMB experiments. Using Bayesian techniques, we proceed from the time-ordered data through maps of the sky, to power spectra, and to cosmological parameters. We discuss computational problems encountered along the way, and review recent results. This paper is followed by a commentary by the Pittsburgh Institute for Computational Astrostatistics.
