MOST FREQUENT LEPTOSPIRES FOUND IN MEXICAN PIGS

Pigs act as a maintenance host of L. interrogans serovars belonging to Pomona, Australis and Tarassovi serogroups. It has also been identified as accidental host of Canicola, Icterohaemorrhagiae, Grippotyphosa and Sejroe serogroups. It has been confirmed by serological evidences that infections caused by hardjo serovar from the Sejroe serogroup are rare, as the bratislava serovar which belongs to the Australis serogroup are widely distributed. In swine leptospirosis clinical signs are not very ofteneasily detected by farmers until abortions occur. It has been demonstrated that in sows bratislava shows a significant statistical correlation between the presence of antibodies an abortion. The economic importance of swine leptospirosis is not only dueto abortions, other reproductive failure signs including a decrease in the fertility rates have to be also considered. Due to this it is very important to detennine the seroprofiles to be able to obtain adequate diagnosis of the herd health condition.
