We present an electrostatic ion trap for a CRT gun that is low-cost and does not substantially affect the electron beam. Thus, in contrast to present traps, it preserves the image quality. We show that 65% of all damage due to ion bombardment can be eliminated. The trap can be used to avoid slump related color errors and to protect sensitive cathodes such as a HEC.
