FEM software of ANSYS is used to analyze the diaphragms effect of cold-formed steel portal frame. The apex vertical drifts and lateral deflections at eaves of cold-formed steel portal frame considering diaphragms effect are computed, and these are compared with that without considering diaphragms effect. The results indicate that diaphragms effect can limit the apex vertical drifts and lateral deflections at eaves. The lateral deflections at eaves based on plane portal frame calculating model may be released in order to consider diaphragms effect.
