The influence of complex formation with humic substances on the dissolved species and solid-water distributions of trivalent rare earth elements and actinides was investigated using the following procedures: (1) determining the stability constants of humate complexes of rare earth and actinide ions and other metal ions; (2) studying the effect of humate formation on the sorption behavior of these ions on kaolinite; (3) direct observation of actinide(III) species sorbed on montmorillonite in the presence of fulvic acid by laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy.
