The state of the art of the electrochemical synthesis of borides from molten salts is reviewed in this paper. As a new example, an EES (equilibrium electrochemical synthesis) Diagram has been constructed for the part of the Mg-B system, taking into account Mg, MgB_2 and MoB_4 phases. From this diagram synthesis conditions of stoichiometric MoB_2 coatings can be found, which is a recently discovered high temperature superconductor. Also, a short review of the state of the art of the electrochemical synthesis of carbon nano- and microtubes from molten salts is presented. As a new information, SEM photographs carbon micro-tubes found in the bulk of the electrolyte and attached to the surface of the carbon cathode are given in the present paper.
