In recent times, interest has been paid to the use of coherence theory in discussing the scattering of acoustic waves. Partial coherence can arise both from the presence of random scatterers and from the used insonifying radiation. In this paper, we present a simple approach based on filter theory in order to characterize the information that can be gained, in principle, in a scattering experiment under various coherence conditions, in the first Born approximation.
