A different paradigm how we got there where we are where we need to go

摘要

A review of the history of the USDA Forest Service timber sales program suggests five phases in land management philosophy culminating in a period of expanding gridlock. This indicates the need for a new paradigm for management that prevents zoning of the landscape for single- or domirtate-uses and that emphasizes ecosystems and duplication of more natural processes. This paradigm shin has significant implications for silvicultural research.
