An all-solid-state exciter using a magnetic pulse compressor (MPC) in combination with a switching regulator has been investigated. The magnetic switch acts as a pulse compressor and pulse forming element. This exciter provides a potential for high-repetition rate and reliable operation of gas lasers, such as TEA C0/sub 2/ lasers, excimer lasers and copper vapor lasers.
