During the propagation of an electromagnetic wave in ionosphere, the direction of the vector of its electric or magnetic intensity changes. Rotating, this vector describes a certain volume surface, which is a polarizing characteristic. Depending on the location of the signal source, the surface described by the end of the electric intensity vector will be different. This feature allows to get an additional information channel, which can be used to solve the problem of determining the location of the signal source. The solution method is based on the construction and classification of the polarization characteristics of various signals coming from different sources. Whether the resulting polarization characteristic belongs to a particular class is determined based on whether the parameters of this characteristic correspond to the parameters described in the class. This article describes methods for describing polarization surfaces and the technology of using a neural network to classify incoming signals.
