What value do we provide as testers? The short answer is that Testing has no value in itself. The testing team provides a service to our organizations, so we (the whole organizations) can deliver value-adding products and services to our customers. Today, due in part to the evolution of development practices and in part due to the adoption of new technologies, engineers who used to "only" test can expand their value-adding activities towards Quality Engineering in the broader sense of the word. In this paper we will briefly review the forces pushing forward the changes in the way we create and deliver products today. We will map the way a traditional tester might fit into this new reality and expand her activities, roles and responsibilities. Then we will explore the value these additional responsibilities can provide to our organizations as we actively take on the role of Quality Engineers.
