A Smart Simulation System for Manufacturing

In this paper we present a software system to simulate manufacturing in a real-time remote manner. The system contains real-time communication and simulation models. People who work on designing a production line can use this system to simulate the interaction between robots and other machines, observe and control the robots in the factory, prevent or reduce the severity of a collision. In summary, our system can not only improve the working efficiency and security but also keep the cost down.In the process of implementing our models, we proposed several methods to overcome some technical problems and to improve the performance. In the communication model, two proposed methods: messaging server (MS) and database semaphore, will be used to handle the peer-to-peer (P2P) connections and the real-time controlling. We also introduce the parallel programming and the general purpose GPU (GPGPU) into the simulation. In order to speed up the computation and the object drawing, all these methods make our system more precise, stable and faster than other approaches.Finally, we test and verify our system in the actual use, by simulating the real robots and connecting to the controllers in the real environment; the result shows our system is robust, fast and trustworthy in real-world use of smart manufacturing.
