The present work is concerned with the application of imageprocessing to an off-line DNA autoradiogram images. The varyingmorphology of lanes, nonuniformity in band shapes, intensities andspacing, the spatially varying background of the image andgel-preparative and digitization variations in the autoradiogram imagesmake conventional techniques of image processing unsuitable. Theproposed technique is adaptive taking varying background andunpredictable nature of the bands into account. The authors havesuccessfully accomplished lane detection, lane straightening, adaptiveenhancement of lane images and band detection
