When applying SAW atomizer to an olfactory display, the atomization capability and efficiency for high-viscosity liquid need to be improved. Atomization experiments based on 10MHz SAW device for seven kinds of liquids with different viscosities were performed. Instead of using micropump, solenoid valve with good controllability of tiny amount of liquid was adopted to dispense liquid onto the surface of SAW device. The atomization phenomenon was observed and the performance of SAW atomizer was evaluated for the actual application in olfactory display. Furthermore, the factors that affect the atomization efficiency including dispensing time and liquid volume were analyzed.
