How to increase the content-centric multimedia Quality of Experience (QoE) and energy efficiency for many users in 5G wireless transmission become a big challenge, especially when multimedia multicast communication pattern is considered. In this paper we propose a new approach named the Least Repetition First Transmission (LRFT) network coding approach for wireless multimedia multicast based on computational matrix analysis. Our research utilizes modern Device-to-Device (D2D) communication patterns in 5G multimedia multicast, where mobile devices could help base station (BS) by accomplishing the multimedia multicasting tasks. A new node-packet matrix approach is developed to orchestrate the multimedia multicasting by prioritizing those packets with high decoding probability and quality impacts. In addition, the proposed LRFT approach shows good scalability along with the increasing size of node-packet matrix. Simulation results show that LRFT+NC transmission scheme has better performance in improving the multimedia quality and energy efficiency compared with traditional NC and COPE methods in various situations.
