Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is one of the most heavily researched technologies, enabling direct communication between devices when they are in close proximity. In this paper, we focus our attention on an optimal mode selection algorithm for both cellular and D2D users. First, we define three transmission modes. Next, we employ SE priority and transmission mode selection of D2D communication to study the mode selection problem. However, because the optimization problems are difficult to solve, we propose an optimal mode selection algorithm and convert the complex optimization problems into standard convex optimization problems. Finally, we analyze the simulation results to show that our proposed algorithm can significantly improve the efficiency of cellular networks.
