Executive Summary of OSHA's proposed ergonomics standard

On November 23, 1999, OSHA published its proposed ergonomics standard in the Federal Register. As it is currently written, the proposed standard would apply to virtually all workplaces, including facilities in the petroleum industry. Although the proposed standard currently excludes agriculture, construction, and maritime operations, OSHA has indicated that a separate standard outlining coverage in those industries is forthcoming.
