Variation Characteristic of Volatile Organic Compounds Pollution in Solvent-using Industry

Source control, as an important means of pollution control of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) in solvent-use industry, has developed rapidly in recent years. In this study, furnituremanufacturing industry, automobile manufacturing industry and packaging and printing industrywere selected as representative industries. The VOCs emission characteristics of solvent-usingenterprises using traditional organic solvents and new water-based solvents were detected andanalyzed by production process. The results showed that the VOCs concentration and speciescontribution rate of different production processes were different. When using new water-basedsolvents, esters and alkanes were found to be the primary pollutants, VOCs emission concentrationwas concentrated in 8.77-40.21 mg/m~3. When using traditional organic solvents, benzene series andesters were the primary pollutants, VOCs emission concentration ranged from 27.08 to 2418.47mg/m~3. And total VOCs concentrations, in average concentration, were 2.78-50 times than that ofusing new water-based solvents, which were 75.47, 19.43, 18.27, 5.74, 5.35 and 1.20 times foralcohols, benzene series, olefins, ketones, esters and alkanes respectively. Furthermore, the VOCsconcentration in the workshop environment was 1.90-17.44 mg/m~3 with using water-based solvents,which was much lower than that in the workshop with using traditional organic solvents (6.00-48.70mg/m~3).
