The use of small static compensators for the control of voltage onsingle-phase distribution feeders is investigated. A candidate feedersystem is examined to determine the size and type of reactivecompensation required. The single-phase design of a thyristor switchedcapacitor type compensator is compared with an advanced gate-turn off(GTO) thyristor voltage source inverter type of compensator. Theadvantages of the three-phase advanced compensator are not evident inthe single-phase design
