The performance of mobile communications is critically dependenton the multiple access protocol used to access the network from themobiles. In recent years many proposals have been compared on the basisof spectrum efficiency measured as the number of voice channels whichcan be accommodated in a given bandwidth per unit area and TDMA versusCDMA has captured the major attention in the past. Hereafter we proposea new packet-voice random access protocol by taking into account theeffect of ACKs, random channel attenuation due to fading, shadowing andinterference. The system efficiency is reasonable for a slotted Aloharandom access protocol and suggests further studies in this direction
