Lightwave networks can be constructed by exploiting thecapabilities of emerging optical technology. One of these technologiesis the WDM cross-connect star coupler. This device based on integratinga two-dimensional array of Bragg diffraction cells, can be used invarious wavelength routing network application to overcome the majorproblems related to the conventional star coupler. We propose a newlogical topology, the bilayered ShuffleNet, which is shown to achievehigher efficiency compared to the conventional ShuffleNet. We alsopresent a method of using the WDM cross-connect star coupler in theimplementation of the bilayered ShuffleNet
