This paper presents results of an analysis where one of the synchronous generators for 2A4G is replaced with an equivalent doubly-fed induction generator and an AC transmission line replaced with a Voltage Source Converters-High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) system. Most of the wind farms are located far away from the load centers thus necessitating long distance transmission of electrical power. For efficient bulk transmission of wind power over long distance, VSC-HVDC system provide the needed solution due to its independent ability to control active and reactive power. The effects of VSC-HVDC system integrated with wind power is analyzed under small perturbations coming from small load changes. Results of modal analysis are compared with VSC-HVDC and HVAC system integrated with wind power to find their contributions on improvement of the small-signal stability. The results show that VSC-HVDC system allows integration of 25% of wind power to the conventional generation and improves small-signal stability.
