The unbalanced distribution of waiting passengers on subway platform can easily lead to the reduction of platform ride efficiency and the increase of potential safety risks. In order to study the waiting sub-area selection behavior of subway platform passengers, this paper defined the waiting sub-area of platform and put forward the principle of dividing the waiting sub-area of platform. Based on the analysis of the influencing factors and mechanism of passenger waiting sub-area selection, the Logit model of passenger waiting sub-area selection is established. Finally, the model is calibrated and validated by using the survey data of Qibao Station of Shanghai Metro. The results showed that the distance between passengers and waiting sub-area, relative passenger congestion, waiting time coefficient and platform visual field had significant effects on the choice of waiting sub-area. The model can better fit the distribution of waiting sub-area of subway platform passengers. The research results can provide theoretical basis for passenger flow organization and facilities layout optimization of the platform.
