Long-Term Impact of Non-Egalitarian Gender Societal Structures: A Gendered Game of Life Study

Currently the male population is 3% in excess worldwide, and it is well known that certain cultural groups have a preference for a male child compared to a female child. If such trends for male child preference continue, it will lead to more and more unbalanced male to female ratios across populations, which can have far-reaching effects. This study provides a nature-driven techno-scientific perspective of this phenomenon by simulating population evolution scenarios that could arise with non-egalitarian gender societal structures. A gendered game of life (g-GoL) prototype model is used to conduct simulations that can reveal the long-term impact of non-egalitarian gender societal structures. The prototype shows how a skewed gender ratio can lead to less procreation opportunities since mating dependencies cease among neighborhoods; therefore resulting in convergence or end-of-life scenarios. Societies cannot self-sustain if we interfere with natural selection processes and bring in gender preference biases. By conducting automaton simulations within this fora, our study has aligned computational sciences with social sciences to bridge the gap in their subject ideologies. The g-GoL model provides a wakeup call for societies as a whole. It acts both as a critic and a conscience for policy makers to consider social reforms that will promote more gender equitable attitudes.
