Word learning is the cornerstone of language acquisition. For primary school students who are still in their early stages, how to quickly master the entry vocabularies and stimulate their interest on English learning has become an urgent obstacle in primary English teaching. The continuous promotion and popularization of media technology in domestic classrooms has brought new opportunities for the innovation of language teaching mode. In recent years, the research on multimedia language teaching is common, but the research on multimedia language teaching for students with low school age is rare, and empirical research is especially scarce. Therefore, based on Meyer's multimedia learning theory and second language acquisition theory, the paper not only introduces multimedia technology into English vocabulary teaching, constructs a scientific and complete multimedia teaching model of English words in primary schools, but also carries out an experimental study combining qualitative and quantitative research. Compared with the traditional word teaching mode, the multi-angle and multi-aspect interactive teaching mode supported by multimedia technology can improve students' learning initiative and stimulate learners' interest in learning. The flexible application of multiple teaching methods can make up for the deficiency of traditional teaching mode. The rich and colorful information input under the combination of various technical presentation modes can consolidate learners' memory of word content, and the vivid vocabulary application environment can enhance learners' ability to use vocabulary. Most of the primary school students have a positive attitude towards the vocabulary teaching mode supported by multimedia technology, and it is believed that the multimedia word teaching mode is better than the traditional vocabulary teaching mode.
