In order to see if with the evolution of Smart Grid if Electric Vehicles (EV) can be used as an option for demand response or battery storage, it is important to study the impacts EVs and their chargers have on the electric grid. EV increasing adoption is causing the need for studies on the impact of EV charging. Load studies have only been conducted on systems and transformers but the harmonic impacts of EV and their chargers have not been studied. This paper presents actual data from EV chargers. Both Level 2 and Level 3 chargers with various utilization patterns were studied and analyzed for harmonics and potential grid impact. These studies were performed and the effects and impact of harmonics were evaluated for both these chargers.
