Improving electronics engineering students' skills by projects' college competition

Industry and society demand on competences that required in the Electrical and Electronics engineers have been increased. Electrical and Electronics engineering students must be equipped with certain skills such as theoretical knowledge, hands-on competence, project planning, team work, communication skills and awareness of the society needs. Lecture based delivery or traditional lab experiment are not enough to fulfill those demands. Waiting for the undergraduate engineering students to have those competences in the final projects is not enough and might be too late. Accordingly, there is a need to incorporate those skills on engineering subjects from the early stage through multiple techniques such as project based subjects or problem-based learning. In this study we have implemented project based subjects whereby students should develop a project in their studying subjects and present it in a competition in the field of Electrical and Electronics engineering. The contain of those projects demonstrates the technical competence achieved as well as the weakness and the areas of improvement required.
