We have developed and characterized a race track RDE, which is an optically accessible RDE that combines a linearized detonation channel with a cyclic geometric shape that allows for the wave to be self sustaining and more representative of a typical RDE in operation. The Race Track RDE was designed for and operates with a two wave detonation system, traveling through an approximately meter long circuit whose internal flow geometry is that of a companion experimental six inch round RDE. In addition it behaves similarly to the six inch design in various bulk performance characteristics, including plenum pressure, CTAP profiles, and wave speed.
