Wing shapes for a flapping wing air vehicle inspired from seven insect wing shapes, the bumblebee, cicada, fruitfly, hawkmoth, honeybee, cranefly, and twisted parasite are modeled and analyzed using FlapSim in a hovering flight mode. Two scenarios are considered for analysis, similar wingspan (20 cm) and similar wing surface (0.0S m~2) for all seven wings. Time histories of lift, thrust, and required mechanical power of the inspired wings are presented while considering similar kinematics. It has been found that wing shape has a large contribution on the aerodynamic performance of the seven considered wings. The results of this study show that this analysis method can be used as a beginning guideline for the selection of wing shape for a flapping wing nano air vehicle.
