A wideband double-ridged TEM horn antenna is designed for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging, specifically for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applications. The proposed antenna features a wideband operation from the relatively low frequency of 0.5 GHz to an upper end of 4 GHz required for signal penetration into lossy materials while obtaining good image resolution. The antenna also has a relatively small form factor making it suitable for on-site imaging common in NDE applications. Both simulation and experimental results show good performance of the proposed antenna.
