The following paper describes a model designed to estimate corrosion-related metal loss and loss patterns on structures exposed in a marine environment. In particular, the model addresses corrosion of coated carbon steel structures subject to immersion conditions. Critically, it offers an alternative to the common practice of assuming uniform metal loss and static coating breakdown characteristics. The distinction between uniform metal loss and actual loss patterns can have significant impacts regarding the lifetime integrity of an engineered structure in a marine environment.
