This paper presents a problem formulation and its solution to determine cooperative operation plan in order to contribute an alternative selection of operation plan for microgrid operators addressing with operational benefits. In problem formulation, the authors emphasize the operational benefits of microgrids by relaxing the supply-demand balancing constraint and integrating it into objective function which is composed by the sum of the operational costs of controllable generators (CGs) and the penalty which is the additional cost for compensating the imbalanced power purchased from main grid. Moreover, the optimal operation plan is determined by the enumeration-based binary particle swarm optimization (Enumeration-based BPSO). Through the simulations results, the authors confirmed that proposed enumeration-based BPSO is extremely better than the conventional based BPSO. The alternative selection is also achieved by introducing the transition of penalty factors to increase the operational benefits.
