A PSCAD simulation method for digital relay in smart grid

The C source codes can be embedded into the simulation model by the interface technology of custom modules in PSCAD, which can realize the closed-loop simulation at source code level for digital relays in Smart Grid. The method in this paper has improved the calling interface and the data interface. The realization process and effects are explained by an instance. The calling interface is implemented by calling a FORTRAN function in the script of custom modules. It will make debugging the C source codes much simpler. The data interface is realized directly by the input and output ports of custom modules, which will avoid the usage of complex public arrays. The proposed method can be used to verify the C source codes embedded in an actual protection relay flexibly and simply. It is especially suitable for the transition stage from studying principles to developing a device, because the developers can validate the source codes independent of a physical device, and will improve the efficiency greatly.
