Pseudorandom binary sequence (PRBS) generators play a significant role in wide range of applications in a communication system which includes testing, bit scrambling, bit de-scrambling. In encryption and decryption scheme, the key-stream is important in the security of the whole process. PRBS can be used as the key-stream for encryption and decryption. A novel approach towards the realization of pseudorandom binary sequence (PRBS) based on shot noise fluctuations in p-i-n photodiode has been presented in this paper. These fluctuations are based on a stochastic process whose statistical characterization reflects Poisson distribution associated with photon streams.
