Electromagnetic design of a 5 MW, 35 r/min dual-stator brushless doubly-fed generator (DSBDFG) with hybrid rotor is carried out based on the analysis of position of the back to back rotor magnetic barrier module (RMBM), connection modes of the internal and external winding, pole number, stator slot number. The main dimension of single stator BDFG (SSBDFG) and DSBDFG have been compared under the same rated power. In order to improve further capability of magnetic field modulation, the hybrid rotor structure has been used. Based on the analysis, the finite element simulation model is established, and the no-load performance of DSBDFG is investigated in this paper by using 2D finite element method (FEM).
