Overlay Networking Issues: Implementation The Functional Components

The success of the Internet is determined mainly due to interoperability supported by IP protocol and the presence of the end-to-end connection principle, which has long been the foundation of the Internet architecture. However, this has also caused serious problems: heterogeneous services, new needs and requirements (real-time support of services, increased security), complexity and scalability problems (arising from the enormous scale of the modern Internet, measured in terms of traffic and connection (links)). One of the solutions to such problems in the modern architecture of the Internet relates with the approaches based on virtual overlay networks. An important issue is the need to develop models for the appropriate mapping of the functionality of overlay networks, taking into account the requirements of various parties.
