As part of BASF Corporation commitment to product stewardship, industrial hygiene air monitoring was conducted during two residential home retrofit Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) insulation applications of open and closed cell SPF. Monitoring specifically evaluated whether a confined space situation existed, in residential attic and crawl spaces, during SPF application. BACKGROUND The first home evaluated the application of open cell high pressure polyurethane foam half pound density (trade name Enertite®) and the second home was sprayed with closed cell two pound density (trade name Spraytite® 158) high pressure polyurethane manufactured by BASF Corporation. Two homes were insulated, one in the Austin, Texas area during mid-November 2015 and one in Tullahoma, TN, USA in late March 2016.
