摘要

Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980, triggering a debris avalanche in the North Fork Toutle River Valley, mud and debris flows down the Toutle and Cowlitz Rivers which blocked the Columbia River navigation and flood control channel for months. This paper will address the history of that event and the emergency and long term engineering response to it by the Corps of Engineers.
