Byunsan Beach, west coast of Korea, shows the prominent erosional state in recent yearsduring and after the construction of large tidal embankment, the Saemangum Project, duemostly to the blocking of sand supply from rivers. In order to reduce and prevent the coastalerosion, Korean Government decided to conduct beach nourishment on Byunsan Beach onMay, 2012 just before the summer season. In order to check out the effect of the nourishment, continuous monitoring was made fromMay, 2012 to March, 2013 by precise measurement of beach morphology using RTK-GPS.The result showed that nourishment project was very much effective. Most of the nourishedsand remained on the beach after one-year period. Although a large-scale erosion occurreddue to a typhoon SANBA during summer on September, 2012, the erosion was recoveredrapidly after the typhoon. Overall accumulation is clearly found after winter period, and thenourishment and recovery program on Byunsan Beach is believed to be successful.
