In this study on consolidation of domestic stacked waste landfi ll, the lower landfi ll was 18years old and the upper landfi ll was new. The experimental and analytical research wasperformed to examine the settlement behavior of the waste landfi ll. Settlement behavior wasmonitored for about 20 years and the collected data were analysed. In addition, investigationof the leachate water quality and landfi ll gas were performed. Also, the applicability of theone dimensional Elasto-Viscous (E-V) model was verifi ed through the comparison with thefi eld monitoring data. The infl uence of consolidation parameters on the landfi ll settlementwas studied by using numerical analysis. The study revealed that mechanical compressionsettlement of about 72% was generated in 1-2 years after closing the landfi ll and thesettlement due to chemical decomposition is still progressing even after 18 years of closingthe landfi ll. From the result of numerical analysis by E-V model, settlement of lower part ofupper landfi ll was predicted 2.72m during 20 years and analysis result are correspondingwell with the monitored data. According to the results of numerical analysis, the analytical lyderived settlement behavior through the fi nite difference method of E-V model was similar tothe observed settlement behavior of the waste landfi ll. Therefore, it is judged that the longtermsettlement characteristic can be predicted by using the numerical analysis on the similarwaste landfi ll.
