ENHANCEMENT OF SATEEC GIS SYSTEM USING ARCPY AND ARCMAP

The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) has been used over the years because its inputdata are readily available in many countries. However, the USLE is a fi eld scale model, thusit cannot be used at a watershed scale. To circumvent this limitation of USLE, the SedimentAssessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) ArcView system was developed andutilized in many countries to evaluate sediment yield and effects of various Best ManagementPractices (BMPs) on sediment reduction at a watershed. However, the needs for an upgradeof SATEEC ArcView system have been requested because the ArcView is no longer supportedand sometimes it is not feasible to process bigger dataset under 64-bit operating system. Inaddition, numerous hydrology and water quality models have been integrated with ArcGISbecause of various advantages over the ArcView. In the ArcGIS 10.1 version, ArcPy and otherPython modules were provided. In this study, ArcPy and ArcMap 10.1 were used to developenhanced SATEEC system. In this study, the Add-in type of SATEEC system was developedwith ArcPy and Python programming. In addition, simple BMP tool was developed and addedto the SATEEC Add-in toolbar. The SATEEC Add-in was applied to the study watershed toevaluate its effectiveness in soil erosion studies.
