The dependency on the water infrastructures is very high in tropical/sub-tropical regionsdue to the irregular monsoon rainfall pattern and amount. The changes in the hydrologicalresponses need to be compared with demand and scarcity issues. There is need to evaluatethe existing water infrastructures (storage, distribution systems), in addition to benefi ciaryarea demands on a basin/sub-basin level, on a holistic basis.A Water security assessmentmodel was developed for the semi-arid regions with the help of geospatial data base. Wateravailability and water demand modules estimate the defi cit scenarios that would affect thewater sharing issues.This model was tested on Yerala river sub-basin in the Krishna riverbasin in India. The merits and constraints of the model are discussed in the paper.
